From Side Hustle to Full Time

2020 has been a year of whirlwinds. For many, they were not prepared to be out of work for a month much less for 9 months. The traditonal working structure has been spun topys turvey. Many people have switched to different industries to ease in the employment market. Companies have also decided to experiment with allowing their employees to work from home. Yet there have been many American who have not been able to find new forms of employment during this pandemic.
**The unemployment rate in April 2020 increased by 10.3 percentage points to 14.7 percent. This is the highest rate and the largest over-the-month increase in the history of the data (available back to January 1948)

This interprets to many Americans suffering in numbers equivalent to World War II. One thing that has benefited African Americans and minorities is the increase in business ownership. The cause of this increase can be attributed to many factors mainly the statement that many African Americans can not find employment that pays them the equivalent to what they were earning pre-pandemic. The current unemployment rate for African Americans as of November 2020 was 9.8% compared to White Americans at 5.7% and Hispanic Americans 7.5%.
As a business and entrepreneurial coach I have seen a 72% increase in my business. Many people want to know how to start their own business and how to market that business to ensure that they are successful. My number one thing is if you don't have the consistency you can't expect your side hustle to be upgraded to your main source of income. Some may read this and know they don't want to start a business but bring in some cash. In today's day and age, we are having to think of how to earn money when many places are closed due to restrictions being out in place. The best thing that I can suggest is to start a gig job or get a work from home job.
The “gig economy” is an often-used term in the freelance work sphere meant to describe the altered way people view but also perform work today. And, it was worth as much as $3.7 trillion on a global level in 2018, with a growth trend that promises an even larger share in the future
According to the Bureau of Labor statistics in 2017 55 million people in the US were identified as gig workers. That was 34% of the US workforce and was expected to grow to 44% by 2020.

A gig job may not be enough to allow you to completely walk away from corporate America. I know for me the mother of three children that working outside of the house right now is completely unreasonable. Attempting to balance the endless assignments with homeschool while ensuring that the twins are also having enrichment time is one circus act with terrible timing. How I have been able to balance everything is still a shock to me, but then if you know me you know it's due to our unified schedule. Being a stay at home mom or just a mom in general I always needed to come up with the money for something. It seems like kids are like boats.
“A boat is a hole in the water you throw money into.”
If your looking to supplement your current income or money for the holiday's Gig work is your best option. The flexibility to work when you want and get paid in some cases the same day can be a lifesaver. That gig can be gas money to last you for the rest of the week. For me starting out many times it was the extra money that I needed to make it through the week comfortably. Even though it helped through the week at times I have to admit the pay for many of them are low. my best advice is to find a skill or service that you're able to provide that you have a level of expertise in and share that with others and have them pay you for it.
Now another more stable way of income especially for single moms or moms or dads in this pandemic because we're all having to be home is to work from home. many people have had to switch from traditional in-person positions to work from home positions a lot of those positions are for call centers. Call centers are not everyone's cup of tea but for those who want to be able to stay home with their kids then I would recommend a call center. It doesn't take very much to get a lot of the basic jobs that pay on average between $12 and $17 an hour. That may not be much to some but the others that can be life-changing. Below are a few call centers that I personally have worked for and I can help someone starting out to find a job.

As with everything that we come into contact with daily not everything is the right fit for everyone, but never give up. If you dream of making your own schedule then find a job that can facilitate that. If you want to be able to travel the world then find one that will let you sip margaritas on the beach in French Polynesia. The bottom line doesn't change there are plenty of ways to make money nowadays but it will take some work on your part to get the one that best suits you. Happy Hunting!
